© John Hoenig 2010-2018

John Hoenig FRSA was born in London, educated at Haileybury College and began his theatre career with the National Theatre at the Old Vic. After moving to Australia, he gained a BDA in Technical Production at the National Institute of Dramatic Art.

After many years in Sydney as a lighting designer and stage director, John relocated to Florence in order to study Renaissance art history and develop inter-disciplinary theatrical, musical and art-historical presentations to be staged in authentic locations.

John pursues Classical, Mannerist and Modernist research at museum libraries in Florence & London and through intrepid European travel. He regularly presents guest lectures and produces ephemeral events in conjunction with his colleagues i Buontalenti - in particular having founded the San Giovanni Battista arts festival in 2012.

John was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts (FRSA) in recognition of his cultural & philanthropic endeavours. He is on the Studio Arts College International (SACI) Friends Council. In 2015 John made his Broadway debut as Artistic Advisor to Career Transition for Dancers’ 30th Anniversary Gala at New York City Center. He has recently been a consultant and lecturer for Martin Randall Travel’s 2017 Festival of Music in Florence.

As the artistic director of Festa della Cultura San Giovanni Battista, John continues to develop the annual program of events, curate the exhibitions and also initiate original multimedia events through nurturing the work of both emerging and established Florentine artists, musicians and scholars in site-specific historic venues in this uniquely inspiring city.

John è stato nominato Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts (FRSA) per i suoi meriti in ambito culturale e filantropico.
