John Hoenig has worked as a Director, Lighting Designer and Production Manager on over 400 shows (Opera, Musicals, Dance, Fashion and Special Events), including King Lear, Carmen, Euridice, Jesus Christ Superstar, Rocky Horror Show, Royal Command Performances and many productions at the Sydney Opera House. He has worked with companies such as Sydney Theatre Company, Sydney Dance Company, Queensland Lyric Opera, Singapore Dance Theatre and Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. 

John has specialised in directing large-scale arena entertainment and corporate spectaculars involving hundreds of dancers, animals and vehicles. These have been true multi-media events combining live action with music, video projection, lasers and pyrotechnics.

Through the direction of charity and fund-raising events, John has helped to raise in excess of $7 million with shows starring Sammy Davis Jnr, Olivia Newton-John, Peter Allen, Christopher Reeve, Shirley Maclaine, Sting and HRH Princess Diana.

John has lectured in Production and Lighting Design for the University of New South Wales and the La Salle School of Drama, Singapore. For over three years, John was President of the Australian Production Designers' Association and Australian Chairman for the Organisation Internationale des Scénographes, Architectes et Techniciens de Théâtre (OISTAT). 

Since moving to Florence, John has produced and directed various special events in historic buildings as well as founding a new arts festival in 2012: “Festa della Cultura - San Giovanni Battista”. 

John made his Broadway debut in 2015 as Artistic Advisor to Career Transition for Dancers’ 30 Anniversary Fundraising Gala at New York City Center.
